Care facilities for the elderly are quite difficult to identify, because there are many different types. The most simple and immediate classification is the one that divides them into nursing homes (RSA) and in residences (RA).

The first category includes those structures that provide an average level of health care, medical, nursing and rehabilitative care, complemented by a high level of care to protect and hotel industry.

They are aimed at the elderly in conditions of dependency, even partial, and not be cared for at home. They are included in the RSA recreation centers and protected dwellings

The RA, are addressed to totally or partially self-sufficient elderly people, no need of specific and ongoing health care. The general medicine, nursing and rehabilitation activities may be carried directly on property or district health services, according to the specific type of RA. This class includes group homes and residential communities.
